The hike starts at the Pares hiking car park. First, follow either the forest road or the steeper hiking trail up to the Ciampcios Alm. From there, continue on the gravel road uphill to the Kreuzjoch.
Passing the Medalges Alm, bear right, and a narrow path leads uphill across the green hillsides. The path to the Medalges summit is not marked – when the trail forks bear left; the last few meters to the summit follow a faint trail.
The small iron summit cross stands just before the slope to the north. From here, an impressive view opens up of the Peitlerkofel, the Zillertal Alps, the Rieserferner Group, and the Dolomites – a view that invites you to linger and reflect.
The descent follows the same path.
