The small, quaint village of Rein in Taufers is the starting point for this popular hike. Follow the forest road, staying to the right along the rushing stream. As the valley narrows, the Alm comes into view for the first time. Continuing further, the valley opens up again and the path initially leads flatly along the valley floor before briefly turning a little steeper. Passing an idyllic alpine settlement, you finally reach the picturesque Knuttenalm hut.
For those who wish to continue further, an additional 350 meters of elevation can be covered by continuing along the forest road. The road gets steeper at this point, and leads to Lake Klammlsee and on to the Klammljoch.
