Would you like to experience the Drei Zinnen (Three Peaks of the Dolomites) from a truly special perspective? Then hike up the Strudelkopf in the Prags Valley – it’s a rewarding and easy tour which is ideal for the whole family.
The starting point for the hike is the Plätzwiese car park at an elevation of 1,979 meters. During the summer months, a shuttle bus takes you up from Brückele/Prags between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm. Before 9:30 am, the road to Plätzwiese can also be accessed by private car for a toll – as long as parking spaces are available. (Important: check the traffic restrictions in the Prags Valley between July 10 and September 10.)
From the Gasthaus Plätzwiese, follow the hiking trail to the left until you reach a junction, and follow the signposts to the Strudelkopf. The trail wends its way through meadows, runs alongside a small stream, and eventually merges into a wider gravel path. Follow this path until you reach a ruin, where another signpost awaits, where you can already spot the summit cross. Almost there! Upon reaching the summit, a breathtaking panorama of the Dolomites unfolds. For the descent you can follow the same path back. Alternatively, you can take a slightly exposed path down from the ruin to the Dürrenstein hut and then return to the car park via the forest road.
