Five of the seven owl species recorded in South Tyrol live in the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, which makes the park particularly special. This rare diversity isn’t only fascinating, but also an indicator of a healthy ecosystem. Owls are considered wise characters in fairy tales, yet they are hard to spot – the park offers good opportunities to observe them, though. St. Vigil is home to the “Owl Park San Vigilio” which is a refuge for over 40 species of birds of prey from all over the world. Falconer Mario cares for the birds with great dedication. The aim of the park is to impart knowledge about birds of prey and raise awareness for their importance.
The park doesn’t take in wild birds, except for medical care, but it offers protection to rare species. Curious? Mario will be happy to share his knowledge with you, and invites you to discover the fascinating world of birds of prey!
