Winter hiking on the Kronplatz:

You set out. No stress, no hurry. Maybe even without a destination. And then it turns peaceful. No traffic, no noise – just the sound of the snow crunching beneath your boots, the pine trees heavy with snow, and air that couldn’t be fresher. Around the Kristall, the cleared winter paths lead across fields, through woodland, and past farms and huts. To the left, the Puster Valley, to the right, the Kronplatz – and at the heart of it all: you. At ease with yourself.
Snowshoe walking: purest freedom
Away from the cleared paths, another world opens up. Pristine, vast, almost reverent. The path leads up high – to the Lanzwiesenalm, the Silvesteralm, through the snow-covered Prags Valley, or along secret paths around Olang.
Mulled wine. A wood-fired oven. And the aroma of Kaiserschmarrn pancakes.
If you’re in the mood, you can stop off at one of the quiet alpine huts in our local area. A place where the room is warm, the hut owner has some stories to tell – and no one asks how many meters you’ve climbed to get there. And the way back? On foot, on a gentle winter hike in South Tyrol. Or by sledge – after all, snow also means childhood.
