This hike is one of our favorites. It starts at the ski lift in the Prags Valley and initially follows a forest road that should not be underestimated, leading to the Putzalm. From the hut, follow the trail signs towards Suisriedl, Sarlsattel, and Lungkofel. The path remains steep, so it’s important to pace yourself well. Stick to trail no. 16 as it ascends to the Sarlsattel. Another steep section awaits. As you climb higher, the woods begin to peter out. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the striking Dürrenstein. The view of the Lungkofel is particularly impressive, as it stands covered in green vegetation against the backdrop of the mighty rocky Dolomites. The path to the Lungkofel is not particularly challenging, so it is possible to reach both summits, the Lungkofel and Sarlkofel, without difficulty. However, if you have to choose, we recommend the Sarlkofel: the trail is slightly more demanding, but the views along the way and from the summit are truly unforgettable.
The hike can be completed as a circular tour. The descent leads across the Kameriot meadows: from the summit, return to the Sarlsattel, but then bear left. You then hike through beautiful alpine meadows and small stretches of woodland, gradually approaching the Dürrenstein, before following trail no. 14 to the Kameriot meadows. A steep descent through woodland eventually takes you back to the starting point.
The hike is strenuous, and the steep climbs in particular should not be underestimated, but the view is an incomparable reward.
