San Candido is the main village of the municipality of the same name and was first mentioned in documents around 769. The village is situated at 1,175 m above sea level and has about 2,100 inhabitants. A stay in San Candido stands for a mixture of culture and nature, relaxation and adventure. There is a Dolomite museum here, the Dolomythos. This museum provides information about the formation of the pale mountains and imparts knowledge for young and old. We recommend a tour of the Abbey Museum with its 7 showrooms to anyone interested in history. A detour is worthwhile to the Wildbad zu Innichen, a former spa and bathing establishment that was a meeting place for the nobility in the 19th century.
A coffee on St. Michael's Square and a leisurely stroll through the pedestrian zone are also part of a holiday in the area. It never gets boring here - in winter the evening balloon glow takes place here as part of the Balloon Festival. In January, bizarre ice sculptures adorn the centre - carved in snow by artists from all over the world, on the occasion of the International Snow Sculpture Festival. In summer, the Marktlfest offers feasting for all the senses and the street theatre festival also delights the audience with extraordinary, funny and colourful performances.
