Bruneck lies at 835 m and is situated in the middle of a wide valley basin, surrounded by high mountains: in the north the Ahrntal with its glaciers of the Zillertal Alps borders on the medieval town, in the south the Gadertal with its Dolomite peaks. Here, where the Ahr flows into the Rienz, sophisticated flair meets the typical South Tyrol: in the form of architecture, culture and leisure activities. Bruneck Castle on its wooded hill and the Rainkirche church can be seen from afar. When the visitor steps through one of the imposing town gates, he finds himself in the midst of colourful hustle and bustle. Small shops next to boutiques of big names, cafés and wine bars adorn the long town street. Bruneck pulsates with intoxicating liveliness. In 2009 Bruneck was voted the most liveable small town in Italy.
