The hike begins at the elongated parking lot and initially leads through the forest, passing the Walder hut. Shortly after, you reach a wide hiking path and see the "Ellener Kreuz," but this is not the destination. You turn right and pass another hut. The final section of the hike leads across green meadows to the summit cross of the Astjoch. The rather inconspicuous summit offers a beautiful view of Bruneck, the Kronplatz, Gadertal, and the surrounding mountain landscape. The descent follows the same route but can be extended upon request to the Kreuzwiesen hut (+280m elevation gain and 3.8km).
